LinkedIn has introduced a new feature allowing users to report low-quality AI-generated posts as the professional networking platform steps up efforts to curb the growing flood of synthetic content.

Users can now select a new “Seems like AI slop” option from a post’s reporting menu if they believe it was generated by artificial intelligence and lacks authenticity. Once flagged, the post is hidden from the reporting user’s feed while LinkedIn reviews the feedback to improve its content moderation systems.
The feature forms part of a broader strategy to preserve genuine conversations on the platform as generative AI tools make it easier than ever to mass-produce professional-sounding posts. LinkedIn said it has also strengthened its automated detection systems, which now block hundreds of thousands of automated comment attempts every day, alongside millions of other suspicious automation attempts in recent months.
The company is also refining its recommendation algorithms to reduce the visibility of repetitive, low-value AI-generated posts, particularly content shown outside a user’s immediate network. Rather than relying solely on automated detection, LinkedIn is combining machine learning with member feedback to identify posts that appear inauthentic.
The move comes as concerns mount over the rapid spread of AI-generated content across social media. Advances in generative AI have enabled users to create polished posts in seconds, leading to a surge in formulaic “thought leadership” content that many users say has reduced the quality of discussions.
According to AI detection company Pangram, about 41% of long-form posts and roughly 30% of shorter posts on LinkedIn are now fully AI-generated, underscoring the scale of the challenge facing the Microsoft-owned platform.
LinkedIn said the new reporting option is only one element of a wider effort to promote authentic engagement. The company plans to privately notify users if their posts are repeatedly perceived as heavily AI-generated or inauthentic. It is also replacing one of its AI writing features with a simpler proofreading tool designed to preserve users’ original voice rather than rewrite entire posts.
The update reflects a growing industry shift as technology companies grapple with the unintended consequences of generative AI. Platforms including YouTube, Meta and Google have also introduced new measures to detect, label or reduce low-quality AI-generated content in response to increasing concerns over misinformation, spam and declining content quality.
