Impact News – Editorial Guidelines (Creative Commons)

Our editorial focus is on what is happening on the ground — what is working, what is failing, who is benefitting, who is not and why. We examine how organizations make decisions, allocate resources, manage risk, and measure impact. We pay close attention to costs, trade-offs, operational constraints, and scalability, always seeking to extract lessons that others can apply in their own contexts. We recognize that progress among society is rarely linear, disaster sometimes seen as failure can be instructive, though the daily news cycle focuses on making loops out of shock; we unfold the impact and potential horizon.

ImpactNews does not publish promotional or advertorial content, speculative or unverified claims, opinion pieces that lack evidence, generic climate or impact news, or content created primarily for virality. We also do not publish advocacy-driven material that is not supported by rigorous analysis. Our editorial standards prioritize credibility, usefulness, and independence over attention.

Strong contributions to ImpactNews are grounded in real-world experience, sector-specific expertise, and careful research. We value contributors who can translate complex systems and technical knowledge into clear, actionable insights for a professional audience. Original perspectives, underreported stories, and honest assessments of challenges and limitations are especially welcome. While a background in journalism is helpful, it is not required; clarity of thought, accuracy, and integrity matter most.

Every article published by ImpactNews must clearly explain how the sourced information supports professionals in their work. It should define the problem being addressed, provide historical and industry context, and explain why the issue is relevant now. Contributors must highlight what makes the insight original or underreported, describe what has worked and what has not, and outline the lessons others can apply. Articles must also consider broader economic, social, or systemic implications and offer a clear sense of what comes next.

Prospective contributors should begin with a short pitch of approximately 150 words. The pitch should include a working headline, a concise summary explaining why the story matters and how it fits our audience, an explanation of why the topic is timely and distinctive, an overview of key sources or evidence, and an expected submission timeline. Pitches can be submitted through our contributor form or directly to the editorial emails. (info@impactnews-wire.com and faustine@impactainews.com)

Most ImpactNews articles run between 500 and 1,500 words, and we do not review first drafts that exceed 1,500 words. Our editorial process is rigorous and collaborative, and contributors should expect at least two rounds of editing focused on accuracy, clarity, structure, and reader value. Editors will always revise headlines and text body structure to fit our editorial standards.

Contributors are encouraged to suggest visuals such as photographs, charts, infographics, maps, or short videos that strengthen the story. All visual materials must include clear crediting, source information, and confirmation of usage rights or permissions prior to submission.

Accuracy is the responsibility of the author. All facts must be verifiable and properly sourced, and all claims must be supported by data, expert attribution, or documented evidence. Hyperlinks must be included wherever possible, and contributors may be asked to provide research documentation during the editing process. Writing should be clear, accessible, respectful, and free of slander and unnecessary jargon.

Unless otherwise stated, ImpactNews publishes editorial content under a Creative Commons (CC BY 4.0) license. This allows readers to share, reuse, and adapt content with proper attribution. Authors retain copyright to their work, while ImpactNews retains the right to publish, distribute, archive, and promote the content across platforms.

ImpactNews prefers contributors who can submit articles at least once per month and commit to working with the editorial team for a period of three to six months. This allows for deeper coverage, stronger editorial collaboration, and more consistent value for our audience.

Contributors to ImpactNews gain access to a global professional audience, benefit from open-access publishing, and receive strong editorial support. Our platform prioritizes credibility over clickbait and offers long-term visibility through Creative Commons reuse, helping important work reach far beyond a single publication.
