UNDP China and Tongji University’s School of Civil Engineering will host Rise Week 2025 from October 17–22, 2025, at Tongji University in Shanghai, China.
The event is organized by the newly launched UNDP-Tongji SDG Innovation Lab on Climate and Disaster Resilience (RISE Lab) — the first urban disaster resilience innovation demonstration project jointly developed by UNDP and a Chinese university.
With the theme “Co-creating Resilient Urban Futures,” RISE Week 2025 will bring together national and global policymakers, municipal leaders, and technical experts to explore innovative strategies and practical solutions for enhancing urban resilience in the face of increasing climate-related disasters.
Representatives from 15 countries, namely Brazil, Cambodia, Egypt, Fiji, Indonesia, Kenya, Kiribati, Malaysia, Maldives, Nepal, Thailand, Turkey, Solomon Islands, Sri Lanka, and Viet Nam are expected to attend both virtually and in-person, bringing diverse perspectives, including from the Global South.
Over the course of six days, participants will engage in several sessions, including high-level dialogues on climate resilience and disaster risk reduction, as well as knowledge-sharing and interactive training workshops on urban planning, infrastructure, and community preparedness. In addition, they will take part in field visits to observe firsthand how tech innovation can be leveraged to build urban resilience.
This event is part of UNDP’s and its partners’ broader efforts to advance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and build resilient urban communities, ensuring that no one is left behind in the mission to confront the escalating impacts of climate change.
