ByteDance’s annualised artificial intelligence revenue has surpassed $4 billion, making it the largest publicly known AI business among Chinese technology companies. This comes as the TikTok owner accelerates a major restructuring to strengthen its enterprise AI ambitions.

The Beijing-based company has integrated its workplace collaboration platform Lark, known as Feishu in China, into its broader AI business in a move aimed at creating a unified enterprise AI platform around its Doubao chatbot and Volcano Engine cloud computing unit.
Under the restructuring, Lark’s product team will merge with the Doubao team, while its sales and customer service operations will be combined with Volcano Engine. The reorganisation places Doubao head Zhao Qi in charge of the expanded product division, with Lark Chief Executive David Xie reporting to him.
ByteDance said the changes are designed to improve AI product competitiveness and strengthen customer service capabilities as businesses increasingly adopt generative AI tools.
The reported $4 billion annualised AI revenue reflects growing demand for ByteDance’s AI products, including Doubao and enterprise services delivered through Volcano Engine. The figure places the company ahead of domestic rivals in AI commercialisation, although it remains well behind leading U.S. AI companies.
The restructuring underscores ByteDance’s broader strategy of shifting beyond its advertising-driven business toward enterprise software and AI infrastructure. While TikTok and its Chinese counterpart Douyin continue to generate most of the company’s revenue, ByteDance has invested heavily in foundation models, cloud computing, AI chips and video-generation technology to diversify future growth.
Doubao has emerged as China’s most widely used AI chatbot, while Volcano Engine has become one of the country’s fastest-growing AI cloud platforms by providing businesses with access to large language models and other AI services.
The overhaul also intensifies competition in China’s enterprise AI market, where Alibaba, Tencent, Baidu and Huawei are expanding their own AI-powered cloud and workplace productivity offerings. By integrating collaboration software, AI models and cloud infrastructure under a single structure, ByteDance aims to streamline product development and strengthen its position in the rapidly evolving AI services market.
