TikTok is expanding its e-commerce ambitions with a new AI shopping assistant and a one-click checkout feature that will allow users to discover products, ask questions and complete purchases without leaving the platform.

The social media company announced the new features on Monday as part of a broader push into “agentic commerce,” positioning TikTok as a platform where consumers can move from product discovery to purchase without switching to another service.
TikTok’s Shopping Assistant is a conversational AI agent designed to help users make purchasing decisions. It can provide information about products, shipping, sizing and availability while remembering the shopper’s needs and preferences during the conversation. The assistant can be integrated into several TikTok shopping touchpoints, allowing users to get product guidance while remaining within the app.
The company’s Buy Direct feature takes the process a step further by allowing users to purchase products directly from brands through the For You feed with one click. The checkout experience uses stored payment methods and saved addresses, while users can also track orders within TikTok.
The features are being developed with commerce and payment companies including Salesforce, Shopify, Shoplazza and Stripe. Buy Direct requires integration with the Universal Commerce Protocol, a set of standards designed to allow AI agents and merchant systems to communicate during the shopping process.
The new tools expand TikTok’s e-commerce strategy beyond TikTok Shop, its dedicated marketplace. Instead, the company is embedding shopping capabilities directly into the broader app, particularly its algorithm-driven For You feed, where users already discover products through creators, advertisements and viral trends.
The strategy could allow TikTok to capture more of the consumer journey and potentially more transaction value. Rather than sending users elsewhere when they want additional product information or are ready to buy, TikTok can keep discovery, product research and checkout within its ecosystem.
TikTok’s growing influence over shopping provides a significant base for the expansion. A recent economic impact report commissioned by TikTok found that 54 million Americans had purchased a product after watching a TikTok video. Market research firm eMarketer estimated that TikTok Shop generated about $15.8 billion in US sales in 2025, representing roughly 18% of US social commerce.
The move also places TikTok alongside technology companies such as OpenAI and Google that are increasingly using AI to move from product discovery and recommendations toward actual transactions.
For TikTok, the combination of conversational AI and instant purchasing could turn its highly visual, discovery-driven platform into a more powerful shopping destination, allowing users to move from seeing a product to buying it with significantly less friction.
