The United States accounts for 53.5% of global bot traffic, more than any other country, according to an analysis by web data infrastructure provider Decodo.

The findings come as automated web activity driven by artificial intelligence accelerates. Agentic AI traffic surged about 7,851% in 2025 from a year earlier, while overall AI-driven traffic rose about 187%, according to data cited by Decodo.
Germany ranked second, accounting for 8.2% of global bot traffic, followed by the Netherlands at 5.6%, Singapore at 5.4% and France and China at 3.9% each.
India accounted for 3.5% of global bot traffic, while Britain represented 3.3%, Brazil 3.2%, Japan 3.0% and Russia 2.7%.
The share of automated traffic within countries varied widely. Bots accounted for 43.6% of all web traffic in the United States and 45% in Germany, rising to 61.3% in the Netherlands and 73.7% in Singapore.
Iran recorded the highest proportion among the countries analysed, with bots accounting for 81.4% of its web traffic.
Globally, bots generated 57.4% of web requests, compared with 42.6% from human users, according to the analysis.
The increase in automated activity is being driven in part by AI assistants and autonomous AI agents, which increasingly access websites to answer questions, compare products and recommend services to users.
Decodo said 77% of agentic AI activity reached product and search pages during 2025, indicating that AI systems are increasingly interacting with websites where consumers research and purchase products.
Retail and e-commerce websites were among the largest destinations for automated traffic, accounting for about 13% of successful automated requests analysed. A separate analysis found that retail accounted for 62.5% of AI training crawler activity, Decodo said.

The growth in automated traffic is prompting businesses to reconsider blanket policies that block bots, with companies instead encouraged to assess automated traffic based on behaviour and verified identity.
Allowing trusted AI crawlers while blocking malicious scraping, fraud and credential attacks could help companies maintain visibility across AI-powered search, shopping and product discovery services.
The shift also has implications for marketing, e-commerce and analytics teams, which need to understand how AI systems access their websites and ensure product information remains accessible while distinguishing automated activity from human traffic when measuring website performance.
Decodo’s analysis used Cloudflare Radar data and its internal data to examine automated and human web requests and the geographic distribution of bot traffic. The company said the analysis of U.S. states represents each location’s share of bot traffic originating from the United States, rather than the percentage of each state’s total internet traffic generated by bots.
