LOS ANGELES, CA (September 17, 2025) – Following a sold-out debut, the Black Art Empowerment Summit (BAES) will return to Los Angeles on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at the W Hollywood Hotel, presented by Art Melanated in partnership with Nice Crowd. The one-day summit convenes artists, collectors, curators, and cultural leaders for dynamic panels, curated showcases, and networking experiences designed to strengthen the art ecosystem. Attendees will enjoy a full program featuring four engaging panel discussions, a networking lunch, and a public exhibition highlighting new voices in art.
A major addition in 2026 is the Emerging Artist Competition, offering national recognition and cash prizes to rising artists. Winning works will be displayed at the summit as part of the public exhibition. The competition is sponsored by the Art in Black Foundation, an nonprofit organization dedicated to uplifting visual artists throughout the African diaspora and affirming the shared humanity of its people. Submissions are open until November 21, 2025. For details and submission criteria, visit www.artmelanated.com.
“The response to last year’s summit made it clear that our community is hungry for this kind of convening,” said Sol and Jennia Fredrique Aponte, founders of Art Melanated. “BAES is where the art world comes together to learn, to connect, and to imagine what’s next. It’s not just about participating in the art market; it’s about shaping it, ensuring artists have platforms, and giving collectors access to the cultural and economic conversations driving the future.”
“BAES is more than an event—it’s a movement,” said Jeff and Nicole Friday, Co-Founders of Nice Crowd. “Our aim is to create a consistent platform where Black artists can be recognized, supported, and connected with opportunities. This summit is not only about celebrating creativity—it’s about ensuring those interested in the business of art have access to the information, networks, and resources they need to sustain long-term careers.”
