MARYANN SURRICK NAMED AS GENERAL COUNSEL AT CNA

Monday, October 9, 2023 – Arlington, VA

CNA welcomes Maryann Surrick to CNA as its new general counsel and senior vice president. Surrick is a top-tier government contracts attorney with experience working for both a nonprofit organization and a Fortune 50 corporation.

Most recently, Surrick served as general counsel for The Sentry, an international human rights NGO. She previously was an executive-level in-house lawyer at Lockheed-Martin as well as outside counsel at a preeminent global law firm, O’Melveny & Myers LLP.

“We are excited that Maryann has joined our team, and we know she will be a tremendous asset to CNA,” said President and CEO Dr. Katherine McGrady. “Her experience includes corporate governance and compliance programs, government contracts and enforcement actions, and crisis management. Maryann’s compassion, solution-focused attitude and dedication to detail will serve us well.”

Surrick has two decades of experience as a trusted advisor to boards and management teams. She has played a key role in developing legislative and lobbying strategies and has advised clients on responses to government inquiries, lobbying regulations and revolving door restrictions, nonprofit law, international sanctions regimes and high-stakes disputes.

“I am humbled by this opportunity to further my contributions by joining an organization committed to national safety and security,” said Surrick. “CNA’s reputation as a trustworthy and data-driven nonprofit is impressive, and I believe this is the perfect next step in my professional career.”

As The Sentry’s general counsel, Surrick supported the organization’s efforts to help disable multinational predatory networks by providing evidence and strategies for governments, banks and law enforcement to hold the perpetrators and enablers of violent conflict, repression and corruption to account.

Surrick earned her law degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts in political science from Kenyon College. Following law school, she clerked for the Honorable Ruggero J. Aldisert on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.
