New research from LinkedIn indicates that top industries hiring for artificial intelligence (AI) roles extend beyond the tech sector. Sectors like professional services, administrative and support services, retail, and manufacturing are outpacing the technology industry in recruiting for AI-related positions since December 2022.

Trey Causey, head of responsible AI at Indeed, reported a significant increase in interest in AI roles. “Searches for generative AI jobs on Indeed have skyrocketed by almost 4,000% over the past year, and job postings have risen by 306% in the same timeframe,” he stated.

Amidst this growing demand, some AI positions are particularly sought after. Data from Indeed and ZipRecruiter, exclusively shared with CNBC Make It, highlights the top five in-demand AI jobs: Data Scientist, Software Engineer, Data Engineer, Research Scientist and Product Manager.
