Hitachi Energy announced an investment of 30 million euros to relocate and expand its dry-type transformer facility in Zaragoza, Spain, to a new state-of-the-art facility at the Zaragoza Logistics Platform (Plaza)1.

Set for completion by the end of 2026, the new 22,000 square meter complex will be LEED Gold certified2 in sustainable architectural design, ensuring a balance between environmental care, social well-being, and economic growth.

According to Verónica Ruiz, Hub Europe Product Line Manager for Distribution and Traction Transformers at Hitachi Energy: “The investment project, which is part of the company’s global plan to invest over 1.5 billion USD to ramp up transformer capacity, demonstrates the confidence placed in the Zaragoza team and our commitment to enable the energy transition and sustainable growth.”

The investment includes new machinery and automation to boost production capacity, addressing the growing demand for transformers.

The Zaragoza factory, with a long heritage of providing solutions for energy distribution through the latest technologies in dry-type transformers, is committed to safety, quality, and innovation to continue advancing the world’s energy system to be more sustainable, flexible and secure.

Transformers are an important part of the power value chain, enabling efficient transmission and distribution of electricity and facilitating the decarbonization of the energy systems. They are a key component for applications such as integrating renewables, grid interconnections, powering data centers, and electrifying transportation.

Alfredo Garcia-Borreguero, Country Managing Director of Hitachi Energy Spain, says: “Electricity will be the backbone of the entire energy system. Investments in transformers in Spain reinforce our commitment to meet growing global demand with speed and scale while positively impacting local communities.”

Hitachi Energy is a global leader in transformer manufacturing, having the largest installed base, portfolio range, manufacturing capacity, and market coverage, with over 60 transformer factories and service centers across the world.
