Haven Energy and Clean Power Alliance Form a Strategic Partnership to Establish a Virtual Power Plant and Drive Widespread Solar and Battery Adoption in Low-Income Communities

The Partnership Will Deliver Zero-Cost Solar & Battery Systems to Qualifying Homeowners, Providing Unprecedented Access to Affordable Clean Power, Energy Bill Savings, and Protection Against Outages

Press Release – December 17, 2024 – LOS ANGELES – Haven Energy, a climate tech company that is expanding access to clean energy for all, today announced a new partnership with Clean Power Alliance (CPA), the largest Community Choice Aggregator in California and the leading green power provider in the United States, to install networked energy systems for 300 CPA customers and establish CPA’s first virtual power plant (VPP). Haven will utilize funds from California’s SGIP Residential Solar & Storage Equity program to provide zero-cost systems to qualifying homeowners, delivering unprecedented access to affordable clean power, energy bill savings, and protection against outages.

“We’re excited to partner with Clean Power Alliance to deploy over 3 MW of distributed storage assets, a critical step in advancing California’s clean energy goals”Post this

“We’re thrilled to partner with Clean Power Alliance in their effort to increase access to reliable, clean energy,” said Vinnie Campo, founder and CEO of Haven Energy. “Community Choice Aggregators like CPA are uniquely positioned to lead the deployment of distributed energy resources. Providing zero-cost solar and battery systems to low-income communities through California’s SGIP Residential Solar & Storage Equity Program is a game-changer—it not only delivers clean energy and significant energy bill savings but also ensures these households are better protected against outages and rising energy costs. This partnership demonstrates a viable pathway to achieve energy equity and electrification at scale, creating a more resilient and sustainable future for all.”

Haven has already helped hundreds of homeowners take control of their energy through its all-inclusive suite of in-house financing, rebate management, turnkey installation, and enrollment of deployed assets into VPPs.

As part of Haven’s collaboration with CPA, the program will establish a VPP—a network of connected energy devices that balance energy supply and demand in real-time. The new VPP will provide 4.8 MWh of dispatchable power that can be used to reduce peak energy demand. Over the first three years, it is projected to deliver more than $380,000 in savings on resource adequacy costs.

“Clean Power Alliance is establishing greater energy resiliency and reliability for the dozens of communities we serve. The installation of our first virtual power plant is another action we are taking to manage peak energy demand while saving on energy costs,” said Ted Bardacke, CPA’s Chief Executive Officer. “CPA prioritizes alleviating financial barriers to participating in clean energy. This new solar program for our lower income customers creates an affordable pathway in the transition to clean energy so any customer who wants to can contribute to making their community more sustainable and energy resilient.”

Haven helps accelerate the efforts of CCAs like Clean Power Alliance by providing flexible system capacity that lowers costs, smooths peak demand, and defers the need for expensive peaker plants and infrastructure upgrades as demand increases. Haven is proud to prioritize equitable access to renewable energy for underserved communities, ensuring all utility customers benefit from sustainable solutions and a more inclusive energy future.

“We’re excited to partner with Clean Power Alliance to deploy over 3 MW of distributed storage assets, a critical step in advancing California’s clean energy goals,” said Jeff Chapin, co-founder and Chief Product Officer of Haven Energy. “These systems will not only provide homeowners with reliable, clean energy but also support CPA’s resource adequacy and load modification efforts. Additionally, by aligning with the demand response requirements of the SGIP program, we’re ensuring these assets contribute to a more flexible and resilient energy grid.”
