- DNB and Ericsson win FutureNet Asia 2024 Award for best operations solution incorporating AI functionality for their implementation of an AI intent-based operations (IBO) solution in Malaysia’s 5G network.
- The world-class 5G network is being primed for the introduction of 5G Advanced, using AI to streamline network management and network resilience while enhancing consumer experience.
Press release – Oct 29, 2024
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is revolutionizing 5G networks by boosting performance, enhancing user experiences, and enabling new applications across various industries. In Malaysia, this cutting-edge technology is integrated into the 5G network through the AI intent-based operations (IBO) solution developed by Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) for Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB).
The importance of this technology has been recognized with a third prestigious industry award, confirming the 5G network’s readiness for the future. DNB and Ericsson have been conferred with the FutureNet Asia 2024 Award for the best operations solution using AI, thanks to the AI intent-based operations solution.
The FutureNet Asia 2024 Award is the latest in a series of recognitions, following previous awards from FutureNet World and Glotel for the same innovative solution used in DNB’s 5G Multi-Operator Core Network (MOCN).
IBO uses 5G Advanced technology standards and AI, including machine learning and automation, to make the network more agile, easier to manage, and more secure.
By enabling IBO, the network offers customized connectivity with specific network slices and Service Level Agreements (SLAs). This creates a strong and reliable network for Malaysian businesses looking to digitalize their operations with 5G Advanced.
This world-first 5G MOCN supports six mobile operators, with Ericsson’s AI-powered operations ensuring smooth network management, high availability, and seamless integration of diverse systems.
DNB Chief Technology Officer Ken Tan says: “DNB, Malaysia’s 5G network provider is constantly upgrading its network to have best-in-class technology. This new AI capability added into DNB’s network, as recognized by Futurenet Asia 2024, highlights DNB’s continuous innovation to make it one of the most efficient 5G networks globally.”
Head of Ericsson Malaysia, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, David Hägerbro says: “As technology advances, AI’s role will continue to expand, driving innovation and enhancing connectivity by playing a pivotal role in efficiently managing complex networks while offering consumers better performance and reliability. Malaysia’s world-class 5G network will continue to benefit from Ericsson’s award-winning technology as we work towards making the country a leading digital nation.”
DNB and Ericsson have been working together on 5G Advanced projects such as the Reduced Capability (RedCap) solution, which aim to improve the 5G experience and speed up digital services for everyone, including consumers, businesses, and the government.
At the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in February 2024, Ericsson signed an agreement with DNB to provide 3GPP Release 18 software for Malaysia’s 5G network. This software will enhance radio security, improve user experience, and offer better services for businesses, while also making the network more energy efficient.
At the FutureNet Asia 2024 Awards, Ericsson’s radio access network (RAN) Deep Sleep technology won the Network Sustainability Award. This technology helps make the network more energy-efficient by optimizing operations and reducing energy use.
