Press Release – 09-Dec-2024
Indonesia’s leading clean energy provider is migrating to Microsoft Azure Cloud to integrate generative AI solutions, drive efficiencies and innovation, and reduce IT costs with Kyndryl
JAKARTA, Indonesia, December 9, 2024 — Kyndryl (NYSE: KD), the world’s largest IT infrastructure services provider, today announced that Barito Renewables (IDX:BREN), Indonesia’s largest geothermal energy producer and leading clean energy company, through its subsidiary, Star Energy Geothermal, is going all-in on a cloud native environment to build generative artificial intelligence (AI) into its operations. Kyndryl will integrate its AI-powered open integration platform, Kyndryl Bridge, to enhance the geothermal unit’s IT operations through advanced automation and AI operations (AIOps) capabilities. These solutions leverage AI and machine learning to provide real-time insights into IT system performance and enable proactive problem detection and resolution. This enhances system reliability and reduces downtime by predicting failures before they occur while automating IT tasks, streamlining workflows and allowing IT teams to focus on strategic initiatives rather than routine maintenance.
The Indonesian government is prioritizing long-term economic growth through energy security and digitization. Clean energy transition is a key opportunity for Indonesia to diversify its economy while making its energy supplies more secure and affordable. Expanding on a trusted partnership since 2017, Kyndryl will migrate Barito Renewables’ on-premises IT workloads to Microsoft Azure Cloud to foster cloud innovation and enhance customer service with clean energy. This transition to the cloud will not only reduce operational costs but also enhance agility and scalability, enabling the geothermal unit of Barito Renewables to respond swiftly to changing business needs while powering its cloud environment up or down to accommodate technological advancements, market dynamics and evolving cyber regulations.
Kyndryl is also actively engaged in Barito Renewables’ geothermal arm’s network modernization initiatives, focusing on refreshing technologies and implementing improvements to enhance network performance. This includes the adoption of Software-Defined Wide Area Networking (SD-WAN), allowing enterprises to optimize their bandwidth usage, enhance security and improve application performance across distributed locations with network automation. Kyndryl is also helping Barito Renewables’ geothermal arm upgrade to a more scalable and agile unified communication system, which is a strategic enhancement aimed at improving collaboration and communication within the organization.
“Cloud technology is positioning us to be nimbler, better connected and technologically agile as we face evolving energy market demand and preferences. As the path to the future, it drives innovation, efficiency and is essential in optimizing operations, reducing costs and supporting our transition to renewable energy while upholding our commitment to sustainability,” said Merly, Director and Corporate Secretary of Barito Renewables. “Kyndryl has been a robust partner in our modernization journey to cloud computing and services, and we are confident this new agreement will accelerate our innovation with generative AI and drive better outcomes for our company and customers.”
“The global energy sector is rapidly evolving using the latest cloud technology, and Barito Renewables is making bold advances to use AI to meet changing business needs,” said Effendi Azmi Hashim, Managing Director for Kyndryl Malaysia and Indonesia. “We are thrilled to continue our relationship with Star Energy and look forward to nurturing continued innovation using generative AI and machine learning.”
