A new container export route between China and Portugal was inaugurated on February 18, with the aim of promoting foreign trade and injecting a new dynamic into international logistics cooperation. Under the guidance of pilots, the cargo ship Dingwei, loaded with 1,300 containers, slowly left the Jiangyin Container Terminal in Jiangsu Province and headed for the Port of Sines in Portugal.
At 225 meters long, 32.26 meters wide and with a draft of 21 meters, the Dingwei is the cargo ship with the highest number of containers operated on a single voyage on the long-haul foreign trade route since the inauguration of the Jiangyin Container Terminal.
According to the Jiangsu Department of Transport, the volume of inland waterway and rail cargo in the province reached around 1.3 billion tons in 2024, an increase of around 4% on the previous year.
